Music lovers rejoice! The Friday Extra Concert Series returns on Friday, March 30, 2012.
For the 2012 series,four concerts March 30, April 13, 20 and 27 will be held at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, located on the bank of the Hillsborough River. The park's integrated design with the new Tampa Museum of Art and the Glazer Children's Museum as well as the Tampa Riverwalk connection to the Straz Center creates an art community that makes it a destination for everyone. Concert goers will be able to spread out on the Great Lawn or enjoy the terraced seating around the park's perimeter. Families will enjoy the playground and interactive fountains.
The concerts will then move to the Lowry Park, located at 72525 North Boulevard for the month of May. The concert dates are May 4, 11, 18 and 25.
Whether at Lowry Park or Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, the Friday Extra Concert will continue to provide quality, original local and regional music in a variety of genres. All concerts will begin at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
The Friday Extra Concert Series is produced by the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department and made possible with support from The Tampa Tribune and the Friends of Tampa Recreation, Inc.
All concerts are replayed on the City of Tampa Television, Channel 15 on Verizon Fios and Channel 615 on Bright House Networks on Mondays at 8 a.m., Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and Fridays at 6 p.m. during the week following each concert date.

On October 14, 2011 at Rocky Point Golf Course Friends of Tampa Recreation will hold their 18th Annual Golf Tournament. It starts at 7:30 am with registration. Then a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. Enjoy complimentary beverages on the course sponsored by the Coca-Cola Company and Pepin Distributing. Opportunities on the course included a Hole in One, Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive sponsored by Mark Lenker and the Famous Heckle Hole. Then in the clubhouse with lunch and a silent auction including local restaraunt gift certificate, sports Collector items, gift baskets, golf course certificates and much more. We finished up with awards for low gross and low net.
All profits directly support the programs of the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department.
The spirits of Tampa's past are coming to life again thanks to the Friends of Tampa Recreation, Inc., who have partnered with the Tampa Historical Society, Inc. to sponsor the Gothic Graveyard Tour of historic Oaklawn Cemetery on Sunday, October 30 at 3 p.m. Oaklawn Cemetery is Tampa's oldest burial ground and final resting place for many early area notables, including 13 mayors, veterans of seven wars, and victims of five yellow fever epidemics. The tour is not intended to frightening and participants will learn some bizarre facts about the Victorian-era graveyard and its inhabitants. Tampa historian Maureen Patrick will appear in elaborate nineteenth century mourning attire in the character of Miss Prudence Fipwhistle (born 1855, died 1899) telling stories of Tampa's most notorious and prominent citizens, religious customs and taboos, Civil War History. A $5 donation requested, which will benefit Tampa Historical Society, Inc. The Oaklawn Cemetery is located at 600 E. Harrison Street. Reservations for the tour are not required. The Tree Lighting Ceremony will be followed by the holiday movie "Elf" in the park. The movie will start at 8:15 p.m.

Tampa's Downtown Holiday Parade steps off at At 11 a.m. the will begin at Morgan Street and Kennedy Boulevard, travel west on Kennedy Boulevard to Ashley Drive, turn north and end at Ashley Drive and Cass Street.

Tampa's only outdoor ice skating rink opens Friday, November 11 at 10 a.m.
Admission is only $10 per person and includes skates 90 minute skate
The rink is open daily from Nov. 11, 2011– Jan. 1,2012.
